About Us

Divest UChicago is a diverse coalition of faculty, students, alumni, and community members working together to encourage the University of Chicago to divest its $11 billion endowment from fossil fuels. Our student leaders are affiliated with various environmental organizations across the university, but our mission goes far beyond the UChicago campus—we’re part of a global fossil fuel divestment movement fighting for climate justice and the future of our planet and its people.

About EJTF

We are a student power organization committed to advocating for achieving social and ecological justice. We understand that this goal is deeply tied to liberation from racial capitalism, and is therefore a fundamentally political challenge, more so than a technological one.
EJTF organizes and supports campaigns to place pressure on the University, elected officials, and community leaders to take action on climate and environmental injustices. We are currently focused on getting UChicago to divest its endowment from fossil fuels and establish financial transparency and community accountability measures (find out more at uchicagodivest.com). We have also been involved in supporting community organizations’ work, such as on banning toxic chemicals like petcoke and manganese in Chicago, the campaign against General Iron on the southeast side, and the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition’s clean and affordable buildings campaign.

About PSI

Phoenix Sustainability Initiative is an award-winning student sustainability group at the University of Chicago. We aim to promote environmental awareness and integrate sustainable practices throughout UChicago and surrounding communities by:

  • Expanding our network to enhance partnerships and collaborative opportunities
  • Building an open, inclusive, and inviting community
  • Promoting project productivity through workshops, leadership trainings, and accountability measures
  • Providing members with necessary skills to accomplish tangible outcomes in project work
  • Encouraging creativity in addressing issues and designing solutions to environmental problems

Centered upon a project group structure and partnership model, we create lasting change and impact by getting directly involved in planning, directing, and executing initiatives. Our 8 project groups address issues of specific interest to our members and are relevant to local sustainability needs. The Public Engagement project group focuses on engaging the broader campus on pressing environmental issues, with a particular focus on fossil fuel divestment.
