The UChicago Board of Trustees has ignored demands to divest from fossil fuels for years due to their numerous undisclosed personal connections to the fossil fuel industry. The overwhelmingly white and male Board works to destroy our planet, our community, and our University. Amnesty International rated our endowment 0/40 on transparency and human rights standards. The Board only works in its own interest, from the people of color in the Global South that their investments kill to the Black Southsiders they displace. This pattern of destruction has burned right back to the University, with the Board racking up $20M in losses gambling on cryptocurrency, a $239M deficit, over $1B of losses in a single year, a large gender pay gap, and even outright fraud. We are a coalition of students, faculty, and community members that demand divestment, accountability, transparency now!
